Redemption Explored
After the female human gave them their jobs (cleaning the ship and putting paperwork in order) and the food crates filled the ship to the brim, the Behemoth set off to the starbase Delta Redemption. Yuronuz Sravlen and Armesia Weolash have never been off of Edmial before, and couldn’t wait to see a new sector and a starbase. After watching the Behemoth leave Emdial, they eagerly got to their new jobs hoping they could finish asking the female human about life in space.
Yuronuz had a wide smile on his face as the two Keldons cleaned the interior of the ship. “This is even better than going to flight school! I heard that an apprenticeship gets higher pay than just graduating out of school!” Yuronuz brimmed with joy.
“I can’t believe it either. Makes me want to become a pilot too!” Armesia mopped the floor up to a room that said Captain’s Quarters on it. “Are we supposed to clean this too?”
“Maybe we can save it for last, don’t want to get on the captain’s bad side yet. Let’s go into this room.” They both entered the room labeled First Mate. They found the room messy with human women’s clothing scattered around the room. “Guess the First Mate is also a human?” Yuronuz pointed out, a little embarrassed.
“Can’t be.” Armesia was puzzled; she could have sworn she clearly heard a male’s voice when she was tied to a chair.
Suddenly, there were many deafening crashing sound that shook the Behemoth and made Yuronuz and Armesia lose balance. Papers, clothes, and boxes fell to the ground as they made their way to the cockpit to see what was going on.
As they made their way, Armesia notice the door to the Captain’s Quarters opened. She didn’t have time to think about it, another bang sent them flying through the cockpit door.
“Ouch.” Yuronuz was pinned under Armesia. They both got up in an awkward silence. They then saw a male Keldon in a red and black uniform manning the controls on the captain’s seat spouting orders towards the female human, who was sitting in the First Mate’s chair.
“What’s going on?” Armesia asked, forgetting all about the loud crashes in the ship.
“Ambush.” The Keldon said simply without looking at them. “Chloe, scan the area for signs of that pirate. Let’s find that bastards retreat point.”
“Aye, Mobo.” Chloe looked busy at her console. She continually pressed a series of buttons and stared at the screen. After a couple of minutes, Chloe cursed and banged the console. “Sorry Mobo. I lost the twerp.”
“No problem. Let’s get food delivered then. Can’t have a weak pirate stop us then. I’ll handle it from hear Chloe. Give our recruits something to calm their nerves.” The real Mobo continued to fiddle with his controls as the Behemoth regained its speed.
“Come with me you two.” Chloe led Yuronuz and Armesia out the door. “Looks like you now know that I’m not Mobo.” Chloe regained her light, mocking smile. “How do you like the real Mobo?”
“He’s stupid.” Armesia said bluntly. “Why did you lie to us?”
“Well, for one, it was Mobo’s idea.” Chloe said smiling. “Two, I like a good joke. Anyways, it’s Mobo who thought up keeping you with us, so you should be thankful to him.”
“It’s not that.” Yuronuz said, “It’s that Armesia thinks of all pilots as pompous jerks.” Yuronuz received another dirty look from Armesia.
“That’s a great description of most of them,” Chloe laughed, “but I assure you Mobo and other Delta pilots do not fit into that stereotype. Though of course, Mobo is a little deceiving and misleading at times, but that’s what he uses to gather information.”
“It’s very useful to do it that way.” Mobo appeared behind them in the corridor. “We have arrived at Delta Redemption. First thing I want to do, is register you two in the Empire to become Empire pilots. Any objections?”
“No sir.” They both said.
“Then I will be off to a meeting, and Chloe will help you join the Delta alliance. After that, you will be official crew members on my ship.” Mobo threw them a smile.
“Then I’ll take you to meet other Delta pilots.” Chloe added.
“Thank you sirs!” Yuronuz said, delighted.
Armesia wasn’t so sure.
